How Holistic Therapy Works

Initial Sessions (1-4):

During the first few sessions, you'll share your story, assess the compatibility between you and me, set goals, and develop a treatment plan. This time is also crucial for building a strong rapport. Long-term progress is most effective once these foundational elements are in place, as they are essential for meaningful change.

The Treatment Phase:

After the initial sessions, you'll begin actively working toward your treatment goals. The specific approach will vary depending on your unique needs and my expertise and therapeutic style.

In this phase, you’ll focus on gaining insights, developing new skills, and processing emotions, all aimed at fostering lasting change. I will guide you through the process, but your progress will largely depend on your commitment to practicing what you learn outside of sessions. The more you engage, the more you will see meaningful progress.

Post-Treatment Phase:

After you’ve achieved your initial goals, I recommend transitioning to a "maintenance" phase. During this stage, the frequency of sessions is reduced to monitor how well your progress is sustained with less frequent visits. If improvements continue, you may be ready to move toward completing therapy. However, if challenges arise, sessions will focus on addressing and managing these obstacles to keep you on track.

FAQ

  • How do I know you are the right therapist for me?

Feeling comfortable, being able to open up, and having trust in your therapist’s understanding and abilities are all fundamental aspects of making progress in therapy. It's great advice to give the process 2-3 sessions to assess the fit while keeping in mind that a strong therapeutic alliance is key to achieving positive outcomes.

  • How often will I attend therapy?

This is entirely up to you, but it is strongly recommended to schedule weekly sessions for the first three months to get some momentum and achieve progress. After 3 months the frequency can be assessed. Clients with more complex or severe symptoms may benefit from more frequent appointments.

My goal is to help you achieve success in your counseling journey, and starting with less frequent visits may decrease the likelihood of meaningful progress.

  • How long will appointments last?

Therapy lasts 50 minutes, which is the standard for the general client who experiences mild to moderate mental health symptoms without complex needs. For more severe symptoms, 60-75 minute sessions can be discussed, along with the associated fees.

  • How long should I expect therapy to take?

The length of your counseling journey depends on several factors. Ask yourself: How long has this issue been present? How deeply ingrained are my habits around it? Has it resurfaced after periods of improvement?

If your concern is new and without established habits, your process may be relatively short, lasting a few months. However, long-standing issues often require more time for lasting progress. While therapists can offer an estimated timeframe, your progress depends largely on how consistently you apply what you learn in daily life outside of session.

  • Do you provide in-person counseling?

All counseling sessions are held through a secure, user-friendly Telehealth platform. For established clients, phone sessions are also available when necessary. Please note that in-person counseling is not offered at this time.

  • Is online counseling right for me?

While online counseling offers many benefits—such as convenience, effectiveness, and protection from colds and disease—it may not be suitable for everyone. Teletherapy is most effective for individuals with mild to moderate symptoms, who feel comfortable using technology, and who can access a quiet, private space for their sessions. It is not recommended for those in crisis or experiencing suicidal thoughts.

  • Who do you work with?

I offer counseling for adults living in New York State, with a focus on stress and burnout, anxiety, parents of neurodivergent children (ADHD & Autism) and unhealthy smartphone habits/addiction. Please note that I do not provide counseling for children or couples. Although I have a lot of experience of working with children and teens, it's most effective with in-person meetings for this client group.

  • What is the cancellation policy if I need to cancel or change appointments?

You need to cancel at least 24 hours before your appointment time or you will need to pay for the appointment. An occasional exception may be made in the case of an emergency.

  • Do you offer weekend or evening sessions?

I currently have limited availability on the weekends, but no evening sessions.

  • What theoretical approaches do you use?

I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including but not limited to CBT, Positive Psychology, Client-Centered and Solution-based Therapy, mixed in with Mindfulness techniques and other holistic elements as I find this to be most beneficial. In working with individuals there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept credit card and Venmo for payment for therapy.

  • How do I book an appointment?

To book your first appointment, visit the Contact page and fill out the contact form.

  • Do you offer a sliding scale?

I have limited spots for sliding scale patients. Contact me to inquire about availability.
